In recent years, a number of movies related to Nanking Massacre had been produced, for example, Lu Chuan's "The City of Life and Death" released in 2009, was a fictionalized telling of the Rape of Nanjing in 1937. Another, the German movie "John Rabe" released also in 2009, was about the life of John Rabe: Oskar Schindler of China. Ironically, John Rabe, a Nazi party leader in Nanking, he and other western foreigners established a Safety Zone and saved hundreds of thousands of refugees during the Rape of Nanking. It was Iris Chang, in 1996, who tracked down the descendants of John Rabe in Germany and discovered that John Rabe left behind a 2000 pages of his diary. John Rabe and his diary are the most important testimonial and eye-witness of the Rape of Nanking.
